There may be an alternative solution to the problem of liver fatty liver.xxx Researchers at the Swedish Karolinska Institutet have in fact identified a molecular pathway that, when silenced, could help restore normal functions of immune cells among those suffering from this illness.

The study was released in the scientific journal Science Translational Medicine and has an Italian guide: it is Valerio Azzimato an investigator in the department of medicine . He is the first author of the study. Valerio has an experience at the Ifo Regina Elena in Rome and at the Monzino Cardiology Center.

Nonalcoholic liver disease happens caused by an excess of fat in the liver. The condition is seen in people who don't drink much, or even no alcohol. This is a common problem for people who are obese or suffer from diabetes. There is no treatment currently available. Researchers found that liver macrophages are a kind of white cell that is essential to the immune system that is found in the liver, attempt to eliminate fat that is not needed.

These immune cells produce excessive levels of oxidants. Fatty liver can lead to liver damage. The obese and mice are both carriers of a completely missing antioxidant protein Nrf2, which defends against dangerous antioxidants.

" The absence of the Nrf2 protein tells us that overweight people don't are able to adapt effectively to the oxidative stress caused by the accumulation of fat in the liver," claims Azzimato. Researchers also discovered increased levels (miR144), of microRna-like molecules in the livers of obese people.

In response to oxidative stresses and oxidative stress, immune cells as well as the largest and most populous liver cells Hepatocytes are the largest producers of miR144.

The decrease in the protein levels of Nrf2, miR144 causes an inability to produce antioxidants. The scientists were then able to suppress miR144 expression in immune cells.

The liver's metabolism was lower and the antioxidant function returned to normal.
